Red Snapper News Bites 06.05 - Climb every mountain

Out and about
Close to home or around the country, architectural and location photography are two of my passions. Take these three recent projects...

Indoor climbing
Climb every mountain
Grade 11* listed church St Benedict's in Manchester attracted national recognition when it re-opened its doors as Manchester Climbing Centre, complete with the region's highest artificial rock face. The architects Buttress Fuller Alsop Williams asked us to capture the juxtaposition between the 19th century church and probably the most dramatic indoor climbing experience in the country. If that wasn't challenge enough, we also had to undertake the photography while the centre remained open! This meant working out how to light the awe-inspiring space while meeting all the health and safety requirements, as climbers continued to pit their wits against the challenges in front of the massive rose window.

Jersey
A jaunt in Jersey
Developer CTP Ltd commissioned us to capture its work on one of the most prominent sites in St Helier, Jersey. CTP has a reputation for design innovation, and was keen to showcase its achievements. The former landfill site that now houses a mix of commercial and public leisure facilities including a cinema, a public swimming pool, a leisure complex and restaurants all overlooking a new marina surrounded by high quality housing and hotels. The shoot involved a couple of days on location to capture all the elements of the development during the day and at night. This fantastic night shot really highlights the work of architects Faulkner Brown and CTP's amazing achievements.

Sandown silk
As smooth as silk
When fabric designers Sandown and Bourne asked us to shoot their fabrics for a new pattern book we knew that the choice of location would be key. After quite a bit of research we decided the Silk Museum in Macclesfield would make the perfect backdrop. And, as you can see, the contrast between old and new creates some beautiful images. Needless-to-say the client was delighted!
