Red Snapper News Bites 07.05 - Keeping it natural

It's all about the people
Photographing people, from the chairman of the board to a crowd in an upmarket bar, presents a unique set of challenges. Keeping it natural, capturing the moment, and letting the 'product' shine through are three of the challenges set by the projects highlighted here.

London-based business consultants, Abraham Hawkes, were looking for some shots for a new corporate brochure in order to promote their services to some of the largest companies in the country. The pictures had to feature the Chairmen of some of their most prestigious clients – all busy men – who had been asked to give up their time.

The brief required us to travel the country to achieve a relaxed and natural shot of each individual in a 15-minute time slot. It was vital to take a discreet and professional approach that quickly put the subjects at ease, so that we could achieve the human and approachable image our client was looking for.

When the Deckers Group opened a new pub in Mobberley, Cheshire, they wanted some candid, fly-on-the wall photography that would instantly convey the ambience and atmosphere of the upmarket drinking establishment. They were thinking of producing a quirky brochure, but the runaway success on opening meant this was unnecessary. Instead they have used the shots for a wide range of advertising, editorial and PR opportunities.

The pictures use abstract angles, reflections and movement to create a sense of fun, excitement and action, whilst at the same time emphasising the quality of the fixtures and fittings. The shots have proved so popular that we are returning in August to take additional images of summer fun in the gardens.

When Aspect UK commissioned us to take pictures of their new market research viewing facilities in Stockport, we had to capture the ambience and quality of the facilities as well as the ways in which they could be used. The project involved working in small rooms but achieving the impression of space. Using a combination of models and friends to keep the costs down, we carefully staged the shots to show how the rooms could be used for market research, hospitality, business meetings and interviews.

Used in a brochure, as exhibition panels and in advertising, the photographs helped establish Aspect as the North West's premier viewing facility. And, as their business has grown, we have been asked back to take more shots, which will once again be used across a wide range of media.
