Red Snapper News Bites 08.05 - Let the products do the talking

Let the products do the talking
Whether it's high quality furniture, exquisite jewellery, or industrial equipment, if you want shots for brochures, PR or exhibitions you really need the products to do the talking. It's all about doing whatever's required to capture the essence of a business and make the products come to life and jump off the page. Here are three examples...

Furniture montage
The quality shines through
H J Berry & Sons, one of the few remaining UK furniture manufacturers, makes high quality traditional and contemporary wooden furniture for the contract and retail sectors. They were looking to shoot their entire collection for their brochures and website. This required traditional product shots on plain backgrounds as well as some more abstract 'artistic' shots that captured the form and shape of the furniture. We used light imaginatively to create a style of shot that would also have a strong impact at trade shows - that would really make H J Berry stand out from the crowd.

In what can be a difficult industry our clients required flexibility, so we helped them to build an in-house studio and trained their staff to take simple point and click pictures. We then provided a mobile service and visit them to take the more complicated shots. This mobile service saves them time and money, as they don't need to arrange transport to deliver what can be large items to our studios.

Gold rings
Creating a sparkle
Local jewellery designer Jenni Brown Designs and sells a stunning collection of women's contemporary jewellery. Jenny was looking for one shot that would convey the quality of her entire range and that could be used across a variety of media - from exhibition stands to brochures and catalogues. We had to capture her brand using a collection of rings to create a highly creative, modern and funky shot that would generate maximum impact.

We knew that lighting would be a key element in creating the right feel and, as you can see, the time spent perfecting the lighting paid dividends in the final shot.

Catalogue cover
Let's do it again
In 2001 H C Slingsby Plc manufacturers and suppliers of Industrial & Commercial Equipment asked us to convey a selection of their product range in one shot which would be used on the front cover of their catalogue, on exhibition stands and as a display in their reception area. Every year since we have been asked back to work alongside their in-house design team to create a new look for the front covers and inserts of their catalogues.

You can see here how we've revisited the project and come up with different ways to approach the same job and show the variety of products our clients offer.
